About Perry Pride

-s2vbvan_400x400.png

In 2009, there was a realization that Perry had become a city of detached and uninterested citizens. While there was still love for the community, it was not shown to its full capacity. Our Historic Downtown was once a steady place of business and excitement for those who needed hardware, fabric, groceries, or needed mail, wanted to watch a movie, or just hang out with family and friends. Now, downtown only holds a few businesses with little walkability for pedestrians. School activities keep the younger generations busy and Senior Citizens have their own gatherings, but very few events had been put on that encompasses all demographics of Perry. Thus, Perry Pride was formed in 2009 to combat these issues.

What began as 11 people meeting in a member’s living room, now has flourished into an evolving organization of more than 30 committee members and several more volunteers. Set from the beginning, Perry Pride’s main and continuing goal is to host events, sponsor activities, and support the past, present and future of Perry for every citizen or interested group.

With the work over the past 16 years, this dedicated group of individuals have come together in order to bring back the love and enthusiasm to share with everyone in the community, and help make Perry a city we are all proud to call our home.

Perry Pride is part of Kansas Community Empowerment (KCE), an organization dedicated to making communities better places to live. This organization is a partnership of K-State Research and Extension, Kansas Department of Commerce, Kansas Masons and Kansas PRIDE, Inc. Perry Pride has been awarded Community of Excellence designation through Kansas PRIDE for 2014-2019.
