Perry Pride was formed in 2009 due to a realization that Perry, Kansas had become a town of siloed segments of citizens. Our historic downtown was once a bustling destination for shopping, a place to trade eggs and cream or maybe catch an outdoor movie. It now has few businesses and little to no pedestrian traffic. School activities keep the young busy and our senior citizens have their own gatherings, but there were few events in which all demographic groups could come together.  Perry Pride wanted to host events and sponsor activities for all ages and interest groups.

 

What began as a meeting of 11 people in a member’s living room has become an evolving group of committee members who want to make Perry, Kansas a place we are all proud to call our hometown.

 

Perry Pride is part of Kansas PRIDE, an organization dedicated to making communities better places to live. Kansas PRIDE is a partnership of K-State Research and Extension, Kansas Department of Commerce, Kansas Masons and Kansas PRIDE, Inc. Perry Pride has been awarded Community of Excellence designation through Kansas PRIDE for 2014-2019.
